Keurig

Breakthrough brewing, from office to home.

Before single-serve coffee became a household ritual, Keurig was finding success in offices and corporate settings. The company partnered with Motiv to help bring that experience home, developing their first consumer pod brewing system and introducing a whole new way for people to make (and think about) coffee at home. We quickly became their go-to partner for branding, packaging, industrial design, engineering, and merchandising.

The making of an icon.

Motiv designed the now-iconic B50 brewer along with its many iterations – an engagement that grew into a broad, ongoing creative partnership spanning a diverse product lineup sold to Keurig customers worldwide.

From the first cup

In the beginning, Motiv worked with Keurig to translate their pod-based brewing technology into a simplified experience. Central to that effort was the design of a manual puncture mechanism, creating the now-iconic bale lever handshake interaction that defined the pod-based brewing experience preferred by consumers. This interaction became an ownable, intuitive moment—one that helped introduce consumers to Keurig’s family of single-serve beverages at the touch of a button.

Scaling simplicity for over a decade.

Motiv partnered with Keurig to support a broad range of pod-based innovations while staying focused on conveniently delivering a consistently good cup. Along the way, we established and evolved a recognizable visual brand language, and supported the full ecosystem around the product–from packaging and in-box materials to merchandising systems and trade show experiences—ensuring every touchpoint reinforced the clarity and convenience that helped make Keurig the category leader they are today.
