Keurig (www.keurig.com) creates single-cup coffee brewing systems that allow users to enjoy a perfectly brewed cup of coffee with minimal effort. By 2004, Keurig systems were found in offices all around the country. But the company believed it could penetrate the home market with a brewer that appealed to high-end retailers and upscale consumers. Keurig turned to Motiv.
The design challenge for us was scaling down the commercial-sized brewer to fit in kitchens without sacrificing the technology that ensured coffeehouse quality. The result of our efforts was a single-cup brewer that is at once beautiful to look at and supremely user friendly.
As Keurig's presence in the consumer market began to grow, corporate revenues doubled to more than $50 million within a year. Today, the consumer market represents two-thirds of sales. Keurig was acquired by Green Mountain Coffee Company in 2006.
